Weddings are a time of happiness, joy and gathering of family and friends. Each wedding is different and the planning that goes into such an event can face many obstacles. But sometimes certain unexpected events can affect the planning of a wedding in greater ways than anyone could imagine and when this happens often times families and friends rally together to make the event more memorable than ever.
We just returned from vacationing in Greece with my mother in law, Joy, and her husband, Jim.
We had a great time crawling over piles of ancient rocks and soaking up the atmosphere in the cradle of Western Civilization.
And, we learned something about Joy.
If you need someone on your team who can decipher Greek and Roman mythology and the stories of the ancient Greeks, you want Joy. If your need is for someone steeped in British and American literature or European history, you want Joy.
I’m not a runner. In fact, I really don’t like running. But I will participate in the occasional 5K fundraisers. My first one actually popped up in my Facebook timeline from 5 years ago. I was running with 2 very athletic friends who really pushed me hard! Yep, I knew then running wasn’t my thing.
The declining overall health and wellbeing of the population is always a hot topic in the news today. The abundance and convenience of fast food and junk food eating opens the door for numerous health issues for people of all ages in this country. Efforts from numerous organizations and health promoters are underway to help curb the downhill slide that the general public is taking.
Each day that we wake up is an opportunity for a new adventure with its own challenges and experiences. Most days we know pretty much how our day will turn out. We wake up, have coffee, get kids off to school or get ready for work. But every once in a while something happens that was the farthest thing from our minds that morning.
America has always been known as the land of opportunity. For almost every one of us we can trace our lineage back to someone who left their homeland in a foreign country and braved a new life here. Just recently one local Crossroads resident took the step to becoming an American citizen. His story inspires many as to the opportunities that this country offers to those who want to work hard for a better way of life.
Some people travel to Greece for the splendor and nightlife of the islands: Santorini and Mykonos especially draw vacationers to their white, sandy beaches and famous nightclubs.
The people of the Crossroads are a very generous bunch of folks. Individuals and organizations are always looking for ways to help those less fortunate and make a difference in the lives of others. From bakes sales to marathons to barbecues and benefits, the Crossroads is there to help the needy and make a way for people to have fun at the same time.
There is no doubt about it, this is a digital world in which we live. From phones to computers to cars, you name it, almost everything we deal with has ties to technology. More and more books are being read online and when it comes to photographs, the technology makes it easy for anyone to share snapshots. Social medias allow us to share our lives with just a click of a button. Unfortunately, most of those photographs are never printed and as time goes by, few may remember who are what the photo is about.
