Jewelry, Stained Glass and More
Story by Carolyn Mann Morehead • jewelry photos Korczynski's Photography

When we think of glass we often have thoughts of dinnerware, wine glasses, windows and a variety of other common household items.  But for one local couple, glass takes on a whole different meaning.

2018 is here! As we get older, does it seem like time just passes by faster, or is it just me? We’ve rotated around the sun once again, so now is a good time to look back over 2017, as an individual and as a community. It’s time to remember accomplishments and celebrations to warm our hearts. This is a perfect time to save memories and prepare for the years to come.

The holiday season stirs up many fond memories from childhood to the present for many of us. Is it the sights of the beautifully decorated trees and creatively lighted homes that fill you with special thoughts? Is it the excitement of giving and receiving wrapped packages so painstakingly chosen? Is it the smells of cinnamon spice or evergreen? Is it the feel of the drops in temperature, however slight it may be in South Texas? Perhaps it may be the sounds of the Christmas songs filling the airwaves this time of year to add to the spirit of joy and peace during the celebration of our Lord’s birth. Everything about this spectacular season makes us aware of really how very special it is.

On the eve of August 25th, my wife, niece, nephew and great-nephew were sitting against a wall in the hallway of my home waiting for Hurricane Harvey to pass over us. It was an eerie experience. I was glued to my weather app. At one point, I knew we were in the eye of the storm. It was an uneasy sort of calm. But, I continued praying for safety of my family and our region.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, prostate cancer is now the second most common cancer among men in the United States. The risk of developing prostate cancer progressively increases with age, and while it’s rare before the age of 40, one in seven men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer within their lifetimes.

Numerous communities along the Texas coast were all but completely destroyed in the onslaught of Hurricane Harvey on August 25. Texas residents and organizations rallied to help with the clean-up and the supplying of these communities with the basic necessities of life.

It has been over a month now since the devastating landfall of Hurricane Harvey on the Texas coast.  In the wake of all the wind, rain and destruction stories of heroism are emerging from many sources.  Rescues, recovery and the rebuilding of lives and communities are apparent in all of the Texas gulf coast areas.
