Weddings are a time of happiness, joy and gathering of family and friends.  Each wedding is different and the planning that goes into such an event can face many obstacles.  But sometimes certain unexpected events can affect the planning of a wedding in greater ways than anyone could imagine and when this happens often times families and friends rally together to make the event more memorable than ever.

Such was the case with a young Victoria couple as they made plans for their wedding.  Stacie Garcia and her fiancé Jacob Salinas are graduates of St.Joseph High School and Memorial High School and were high school sweethearts.  They planned their wedding for October 21 of this year.  But just before Christmas of 2016, Stacie’s family got some disturbing news.  Stacie’s dad, Ruben Garcia, Sr. was diagnosed with liver cancer.  With treatment they were told he would live two to four more years as it was not that advanced.  With this news, Stacie and Jacob decided to move the wedding up to July 15, 2017 and began making all the necessary plans and arrangements.  However as time went on Stacie’s dad experienced more difficulties and soon it was revealed that the cancer had spread to his stomach.  The doctors sent him home and hospice was called in.  He would not make it to July and his daughter’s wedding.

Salinas Wedding

With this devastating news, Stacie and Jacob decided that they would marry earlier in a private ceremony at her parents home so that her dad could witness this blessed event. Things moved so quickly that Stacie did not even know that she was getting married that day.  On May 30, 2017 on Ruben Garcia Sr’s birthday, Stacie and Jacob were married by Pastor Larry Green in a very private ceremony.  With her parents Ruben and Gracie Garcia and a few family members, Stacie and Jacob were united in marriage right next to her dad’s bed. Because things moved quickly, the couple did not even have their wedding bands yet but Stacie’s dad gave Jacob his wedding band to put on Stacie’s finger. She and her dad even had the father/daughter dance as Stacie swayed with her father next to his bed, a very touching moment indeed. On June 12, 2017 Ruben Garcia Sr went home to be with the Lord.

With all the circumstances surrounding their wedding, Stacie and Jacob considered not having a big church wedding in July as planned. But her dad wanted her to go forward with her plans and have the wedding in the church.  Although Stacie feels very sad about her dad not being there, they have gone forward with their ceremony at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Victoria.

In light of all that has happened recently for Stacie, Jacob and her family, the memories made during this private ceremony will always be very special for the entire family. Things moved quickly and for others that may be experiencing a similar situation, Stacie encourages others to make those memories. She is very brave to share her story with the public.

All Things Crossroads Magazine sends our sincerest sympathy to the Garcia family at the passing of their beloved Ruben Garcia, Sr.  Also we would like to send blessings to the newly married couple Mr.& Mrs Jacob Salinas.  May God bless you both.
