The coastal waters of Port O’Connor, Texas are a jewel of our great state. And the fish are aplenty! Trout, redfish, flounder… these are the most common fish that anglers catch and stock their freezers for that next fish fry or cookout. Throughout the generations, families and friends have made Port O’Connor their home, or even their home away from home, because of the quaint, quiet community and fishing accessibility.

“This is amazing.” Rosie said with a smile. “Is that star getting closer?” Cooper thought for a while.
“It’s not getting closer, it’s just super bright. Wait a minute. Oh no, I think you’re probably right!”
“It’s headed straight for us!” Cooper started to yell. “Oh no!” Cried Rosie. “I think we should bail!”

We just returned from vacationing in Greece with my mother in law, Joy, and her husband, Jim.
We had a great time crawling over piles of ancient rocks and soaking up the atmosphere in the cradle of Western Civilization.
And, we learned something about Joy.
If you need someone on your team who can decipher Greek and Roman mythology and the stories of the ancient Greeks, you want Joy. If your need is for someone steeped in British and American literature or European history, you want Joy.
I’m not a runner. In fact, I really don’t like running. But I will participate in the occasional 5K fundraisers. My first one actually popped up in my Facebook timeline from 5 years ago. I was running with 2 very athletic friends who really pushed me hard! Yep, I knew then running wasn’t my thing.

Each day that we wake up is an opportunity for a new adventure with its own challenges and experiences. Most days we know pretty much how our day will turn out. We wake up, have coffee, get kids off to school or get ready for work. But every once in a while something happens that was the farthest thing from our minds that morning.
America has always been known as the land of opportunity. For almost every one of us we can trace our lineage back to someone who left their homeland in a foreign country and braved a new life here. Just recently one local Crossroads resident took the step to becoming an American citizen. His story inspires many as to the opportunities that this country offers to those who want to work hard for a better way of life.
